My interdisciplinary practice crosses the conventional boundaries between art, architecture and performance. It is grounded in embodied, material processes, acts of making: stitching, painting, knitting, writing, drawing and assembling. Exploring how these are then situated in terms of space and time, leads to different outcomes and the result may be something to wear, something to hold, something to hang on the wall or somewhere to live.
My career formally began as an architect, working in London and then Milan where I established my own design practice. This was followed by a period of time spent in the rural hills of Emilia Romagna in northern Italy where my work began to expand into visual art and textiles. On returning to the UK in 2012, I established my artistic practice at the Bluecoat in Liverpool where I am still based.
Following a small installation at Bluecoat in 2014 entitled Penthouse, that combined dining and domesticity with an exhibition of work, I founded an experimental arts and dining venue under a railway arch in Liverpool’s north docks. Working with theatre-makers and creating settings to facilitate performances and events led to my return to academia to study for an MA in Performance at Liverpool Hope University, graduating with Distinction in 2022. This took my work to new places while providing a lens through which to deepen my exploration of the intersection between art and architecture. My thesis, “Architecture for an Entangled World”, together with my ongoing artistic practice at Bluecoat, sowed the seeds for my doctoral research and I am currently studying for a PhD in Creative & Performing Arts.
